This policy explains how The Department of Second Drafts ("we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on seconddrafts.com, what each one is for, and how to change your choices. For how we handle personal data more broadly, see our privacy policy.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. We mainly use two close relatives: local storage and session storage, which let a website keep information in your browser. We treat them exactly like cookies, and this policy covers all three.
Strictly necessary
These make the tools work the way you asked them to: saving your work, your settings and the tips you have closed, and remembering your cookie choice. They stay on your device and are not shared with advertisers or other companies. We don't ask for consent for these because the site can't work as you expect without them.
What you write stays on your device. When a tool makes a share link, the link carries your text after the # in the address, which browsers never send to a server.
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand which tools and settings people use, so we know what to improve. It is not loaded at all until you accept. It collects information such as the pages you view, your approximate location, your device type and how you use the tools. It never includes what you write. This information is shared with Google, which processes it for us. The legal basis for sending it abroad is the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Read Google's privacy policy, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on to block it on every site.
We don't use advertising cookies, and we don't track you across other websites.

This list is generated from the same source as the site itself, so it always matches what the site does.

Your choices
Analytics is off until you accept. You can change your mind at any time; turning it off removes the analytics cookies it set.
We ask again every six months, or sooner if what we store changes in a way that needs new consent. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of analytics. You can also block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings, though some tools may then forget your work and settings.

We update this page when what we store changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
